5 Tactics That Will Improve Your Social Media Engagement

Because I am an Account Coordinator, my friends and family consider me their go-to gal for any questions about social media, including how they can gain Insta-fame overnight. Of course this goal is not an easy accomplishment and is rarely achieved; I always say they have two options: do something incredibly unique that will make them go viral (ahem #SaltBae), or take a few baby steps that will lead them to the success they are looking for.

Below I have outlined my five tips to increasing your social media engagement.

1. Insert a Call to Action

Adding an action such as suggesting people double tap the photo, or click on a link in your profile influences people to put the “social” in social media. A few of our favorites include asking people to tag their friends, or someone who will appreciate, like or laugh at the post. By making the first move, you’re inviting people to participate in your brand. Before you know it, people will be engaged without having to do this!

2. Hashtags

This one is pretty straight-forward.Hashtags help other users find the content they find most relevant to them. It will help if you pay attention to what is topically popular, interesting and realistic in terms of relevancy to your specific photo. This is like a short-cut, where you can get your content in front of an audience who will be interested in what your and your brand have to offer.

3. Show Your Personality

You literally have 2,000 characters to say whatever you want! Some people stick to a short, sweet style, while others share their heart and use the platform for pensive, deep and poetic thoughts. Whether you want to use this platform for 10 words or under, or for almost-blog-posts. Be intentional with your words, and make them powerful, hilarious, inspiring, or whatever totally represents YOUR BRAND. Hint: This is another place besides the photo where you can capture audience members and add your call to action!

4. Promote on Other Social Platforms

Use your already, pre-existing online presence to promote your social platforms. If the idea of promotion terrifies you, then let’s call it sharing. Connect your Instagram account with your Facebook, Twitter, blog, or anywhere else that you have a presence! You can even put your social media handles on your business card! There really aren’t rules for this - just that the more you share it, the more of opportunities you give others to engage with you.

5. Like For Likes. Follow For Follows.

There’s Instagram offense, and an Instagram defense. You can’t simply sit back, provide great content, and expect people to discover your online brilliance. Get familiar with other people’s photos and profiles. We highly suggest liking other people’s content, and engage with other users (a reasonable amount. Please do not like OR comment on a photo from 20 weeks ago! Nobody likes that) It’s highly likely that if people see you liked a photo or followed them, they will check out your profile and maybe even follow you back. So get out there, tiger, and grow your brand!

At the end of the day, social media is a science, and the world is still figuring it out. If you would like help with your social media or looking to increase your use of google and social media ads, please don’t hesitate to reach out by emailing info@theburnetteagency.com or calling 404.850.2081.
