How to Stay Educated During the Movement

During this time, our society is learning, healing, and hurting. It’s very important to listen, to hear, and to speak up. The BLM Movement has created so much change, people are rallying together, and love is being spread across the streets like wildfire. If you want to do your part, here is how you can consistently help our brothers and sisters in the community.

The first thing you can do is have a conversation, not a screaming match. It is very important that during this time we listen to everyone’s voice and try and understand why people feel the way they do. We should have empathy for those who are affected by this Movement. We should be having conversations with people who look different than us, share a different perspective, and share different beliefs. You don’t have to agree with everything you hear, but you should listen and learn.

Another thing we can all do is educate ourselves before we educate other people. There are so many resources out there such as articles, movies, books, and so much more. Take this time to yourself and learn. Then you can teach others. The most powerful changes that happen are when we know exactly what we are talking about. Teaching others also relates to teaching our children. Our children are the rising generation that is going to make the change. Between the Millennials and Generation Z, they are going to take this movement to the next level. We have to raise our kids to use their voices because silence kills.

The last thing we can do is stand with one another. We all may not believe in the same thing but we all know what is right versus wrong. We have to fight this battle together and win the war. Sign petitions, call your delegates and senators, call your pastors, call a friend, and form a community that cares what is happening in this world.
