Supporting Small Businesses Through Instagram

2020 has been a strange year for everyone, small businesses included. During the COVID-19 pandemic and recent invigoration of the Black Live Matter movement, it is more important than ever to shop small and support small businesses. Earlier this year Instagram released a new feature for stories that helps direct traffic towards small businesses.

The new feature is a sticker option for stories labeled “support small businesses.” It can be found with the rest of the stickers on the stories page. Adding it is as easy as using a filter or your favorite gif! This feature allows users to tag a business and link to their page. This lets your viewers see their profile and preview some of their products before clicking on their page. This sticker helps support businesses by bringing in all of your followers and gaining exposure for lesser-known companies.

When someone clicks on the sticker from your story they are shown a small preview of the business. This is a great way to not only support them, but also help your followers find cool new products. You can have a lot of fun with this feature and find new businesses to fuel your online shopping habits. It also makes great content for your own profile when inspiration is running low. It’s the perfect win-win!

Companies will be glad for the mention and your followers will be excited for new online shopping prospects. It can also be used for local restaurants and any small business with an Instagram page. In just a few steps you can help support your community during these unprecedented times.
