What’s Trending: Micro-Influencers

Social media influencers have been around for years.

For the those of you who are new to  social media, an influencer is a person who has reached a celebrity like status by gaining a large  amount of followers, and can be paid to promote brands, products and more on their accounts.

Though accounts with millions of followers continue to maintain the dominant popularity on social media, we have begun to see the creation of a new kind of influencer: the micro-influencer.

An account is considered a micro-influencer when they have 100K followers or less, and have begun to grab brands attention. At first it seems like the big-name influencers with millions of followers would be the obvious choice, but when you take a closer look it is easier to understand why the micro-influencers are gaining traction.

From the perspective of a business wanting to use social media celebrities to increase your audience, micro-influencers are more cost efficient compared to the more popular influencers. Since they do not have as many followers, their promotion prices are significantly less than more established influencers, so it is easier for smaller businesses to connect and work with them. If they are just starting out, there is also a possibility of doing a trade where they receive a gift card in exchange for their posts.

From the point of view of our social media connoisseurs, having smaller numbers can be an advantage because the influencer has potential for a more engaged audience. Due to the smaller amount of comments, the influencer will be more compelled to respond, and even talk more about your brand!

No matter if you prefer big name influencers, or want to go smaller, influencers are a wonderful way to grow your brand online. If you are interested in growing your brand and connecting with influencers in the Atlanta area, please email us at info@theburnetteagency.com.
